New head office recruits
Richard Smith is in head office working on direct sales. He has started with the Maybo licensed programme. (Some of you may recognise him from the bar at the Sedlescombe Golf Club!)
Maryna joins Graham to assist with book keeping. She has lived in Hastings for 4 years, having emigrated from Belarus. (She still has a strong accent!) She is part way through her Computreised book keeping course (SAGE)).

It takes more than a fallen tree to stop work at Maybo HQ. The multi-hatted director Nick Strapp put on his lumberjack clothes and was out there clearing the road for the staff to go home. ..Although he did consider leaving it there so everyone could get more done. Sadly we hear the big chief (BF) was stopped from going on his travels to Newcastle because Network Rail failed to clear the line. Looks like they need a luberjack or two.
Welcome
Maryna joins Graham to assist with the book keeping. She is from Eastern Europe and training to be an accountant.
Brian Edwards has completed a great piece of work in enabling better, more controlled access to our library of reference material. This will be available, with direct access to all documents, through the ConflictPro website later, but for now please access the index: Maybo reference library Look through and ask the office to send those documents you would like.
Contracts for Services
For those specialists on consultancy basis, please remember that during the spring two submissions will be needed:
Insurance cover Qualifications, including first aid Please also ensure that recent Contracts for Services are returned duly signed. Thanks. For any questions or further advice, please contact Sally.
Graham Spicer will now lead on Accounts for Maybo and is currently 'on loan' to ConflictPro to set up its accounts. Also CONGRATULATIONS: Graham is now a proud father, for the third time, with the arrival of Alice in the New Year.
Roz Scott will now formally remain with Maybo core support. Cherry Taylor has been transferred to the ConflictPro Business Team. Cherry and Roz will be providing photographs and, one has to say, are rather more photogenic than this Rogue's Gallery! (Unfortunately they have been too shy to let us put them on the web site.)
Adjustment to company telephone numbers
Please spread the word that we will now use the main landline number as the 'company number': 01580 881 346 This has been in existence for some years, (and should be the number you contact us on unless you are keying in directly to a known extension). 01580 881346 will remain in use. This action has been taken as a) main office stability and b) growing discontent from some clients to potential scams arising from 0870 numbers.
ICE
The following was supplied via David Robinson - A fantastic idea by the emergency services: Following the disaster in London, East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched an "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston. The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.
Dealing with difficult questions and issues...
On a couple of occasions during recent months clients have contacted us with regard to guidance or information offered by Maybo trainers during the delivery of a Conflict Management Programme. This has been the result of questions from delegates about issues, which are not directly related to conflict management and are therefore outside our main training remit. The advice given has conflicted with the internal policy and guidance provided by the clients. Many of us have specialised expertise and knowledge and it is tempting for us to pass this on when asked. As an example delegates often bemoan lack of action by their managers who use Data Protection as a reason for non-action. Rather than try to answer the Data Protection issue Maybo trainers would be expected to record this as an issue on the Trainers Feedback Report and refer the delegate back to his/her line manager for details. Some of the other issues raised include Post Traumatic Stress, Civil Actions, Drugs and Fear of Contagious Diseases. If you have not been provided with full details of the client’s policy or client stance in relation to a particular issue then care should be taken not to be drawn into providing an answer from your own knowledge. If these issues do occur, please inform the client manager so they can progress the issue with the client.
Common question
Hi Folks - for info a recent question that has arisen with groups in the past Question: I run an off licence and as a deterrent and to protect staff keep a baseball bat under the counter - am I committing an offence? Answer: Although this is a piece of sporting equipment the purpose for which it is intended is clearly not baseball. The intention to use this as a threat and for self defence purposes makes it an 'offensive weapon'. It is likely that you would be prosecuted on these grounds and although you could argue in court that behind the counter is not 'a public place'; this would be a questionable distinction in a shop open to the public. Your employer will also have a view on this. More info - contact Bill.
A change in the law is being put to Parliament currently, reflecting the issues brought out by the Tony Martin case. Please note the extract, thanks to Centrex.
A plea In an attempt to improve service
With the increase in work the complexities of managing the diary have magnified. Can you please ensure:
Ian has your 'availability/non-availability' and that this is kept up to date You check the diary for all entries you have shown against you If you have a conflict on dates you let Ian know asap. Recently trainers have 'withdrawn' from date/s allocated to them for various reasons. It is understood that this can be unavoidable, however, please keep in mind that such a change may result in hours of rescheduling and multiple 'knock-on' changes. Nick and Ian are spending a huge part of their week re-allocating dates, which prevents them from being able to help provide a better service in other areas.
Tweeny update on Spain Mike has provided this link relating to his apartment in Spain. Don't forget he offers a discount for Maybo team members. http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/spain/s1082.htm
